D-Day 75
The Normandy landings were the landing operations on Tuesday, 6 June 1944 of the Allied invasion of Normandy in Operation Overlord during World War II. Code named Operation Neptune and often referred to as D-Day, it was the largest seaborne invasion in history.
I'm hoping by now that whoever is reading this post will know about D-Day and my deep interest in World War 2.
If you don't know about D-Day then please do some research. After all most of us owe our freedom to these brave people and all those who fought in the War.
I have received a lot of comments lately on insta and social media where has my World War 2 passion gone? Why am I not posting about it lately? Is my whole focus just in Korea? No! I don't need to post about something to let anyone know what I'm thinking. But I can tell you for sure my interest for WW2 has gone nowhere. I write about it on my private writing, I read about it almost daily and learn new things daily. So yes, I'm still passionate about it. And this is also the reason why I decided to make this post, and why it's rather sad that I won"t be able to go to Normandy in this special anniversary. But due to a busy spell at work I'm unable to go.
Anyway... I still can't believe it's been 5 years since I was in Normandy celebrating DDay 70. I still remember meeting all those amazing people; those brave heroes. It was a humbling yet surreal experience, like no other. They were not interested in letting me know what they did during the War but they wanted to know about me, why I was there, what I did, what my family did, and if we were having a good time in France. The whole trip, the whole experience still brings tears to my eyes. Walking thru the American and German cemeteries still brings that emotional time. Even tough I didn't know any of those brave soldiers, it was still emotional to see the crosses, to walk thru them and to realised I stood there, right where they were standing all those decades ago.
So this post is dedicated to them, because We will not forget...
Alicia.
